With the introduction of the Nintendo dsi the future is bright for Nintendo. The new DSi, which is the enhanced version and set to be the replacement for the ds lite (over-time) is cutting edge technology. 

DS and DSi video games have enjoyed considerable commercial success in the past few years and the future looks even brighter for Nintendo’s portable protégé. Bestselling titles include Nintendogs, New Super Mario Bros, Brain Age, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, Guitar Hero On Tour, Cooking Mama, and Final Fantasy IV. These games represent a variety of genres like simulation, adventure, puzzle, music, and RPG.

There’s an abundance of DSi video games of various types because the touch screen can be applied to many video game genres. Much of the DS’s success can be attributed to its touch screen feature; it can navigate characters across a map.

It can simply make choosing menu options easier, and one of the best parts of touch activation is that it can make video game activities more realistic, like performing an operation on a patient or lifting aside obstacles to move ahead using a stylus, and much more. The DSi is successful because it is versatile and it can appeal to a wide audience.

The touch screen has been utilized in new, exciting ways in consequent DSi video games that are being released. This is a level of imaginative creativity that’s hard to attain without a touch screen feature.

Sketching is also utilized in Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, the sequel to the popular title Professor Layton and the Curious Village. It combines mystery and puzzle elements that require active use of the stylus in game-play.

The DS has also taken on an interactive story aspect in games like the Ace Attorney series and Hotel Dusk. Maybe this has something to do with the fact that the DS opens and closes like a book, and the format works well with dialogue going on in one side, and the action taking place on the opposite side with the touch screen. These are only a couple examples of the DS’s innovation and the gaming community looks forward to seeing what else it has in store.

Barbie & ken, who gets the Pink Townhouse?

Shocking news around the world about Barbie and Ken!

It can’t be true, can it?  Barbie and Ken have split up. The media made such an ordeal out of it after Mattel announced that the famous couple has decided to go their own ways. Surprisingly, people were upset about this announcement. Mattel reported getting lots of emails from upset fans over this decision. 

You can still play with them and make-believe that they are a happily married couple. You don’t really have to tell your children that Barbie and Ken are divorcing or even worry about what to tell your kids. They are simply dolls.

I live next door to a real-life Barbie and Ken. Though she prefers to be called “Barbs”, she and her husband certainly fit the replica of the famous couple. I have some suspicions that her perfect figure has had some cosmetic assistance but she will deny it a thousand times over.

Of course, Barbie’s figure is completely cosmetic and she’s probably quite proud to admit that. My neighbors, Barbie and Ken, are just tickled pink whenever someone makes a comment about how they fit the roles of being the perfect couple. She giggles hysterically and shrugs it off but you can see her holding back her glowing smile. She loves the attention. Her husband is much more down-to-earth.

I remember in junior high school, my boyfriend and I dressed up like Barbie and Ken for a Halloween party one year. Dressed up elegantly as Barbie that night, I had my first kiss. It was just as awkward as a first kiss should be and I thought that I felt just as “in love” as Barbie and Ken should feel.

Years later, I smile at the memory but I have no idea when my Ken from that memorable night is these days. I’m not sure I really care. But, if anyone should be upset about Barbie and Ken splitting up, it should be me. Afterall, that first kiss meant the world to me and gave Barbie and I a special bond.

However, I am not upset because I realize that Barbie and Ken are dolls. They are nothing more than two plastic dolls that children (and adults) play make-believe with. You can choose to believe that they have not split up and just like real life celebrities can verify, Hollywood gossip is sometimes merely gossip. Life goes on. Just ask Barbie and Ken.

People enjoy eating apple pie at nearly any time of the year, and they’ve been eating it for many years past.

Apple pie has a long heritage—the origins of apple pie are in England, where people began eating a type of apple pastry from 1381. The old English “apple pie” actually didn’t have any sugar in it, which is practically impossible today. Instead, it contained pear juice to sweeten the pastry, and other fruits like figs and raisins were added as well. From England, the apple pie recipe spread to the Netherlands, where the Dutch created their own variation. Dutch apple pie contains additional flavourings like cinnamon and lemon juice, and it comes with a lattice upper crust.

Apple pie eventually travelled with the colonists over to America, but it wasn’t so widespread in the beginning since apples were mainly used to make cider. However, apple pie has experienced a popularity boom since then and now it has become an iconic American dessert. Someone even coined the phrase “as American as apple pie” in the course of American apple pie consumption, and apple pie is consistently voted the number one favourite pie in the US. Apple pie has come a long way from being a simple pudding pastry to becoming a classic dessert.

Variations on the apple pie still exist today. There’s the deep dish apple pie, and the Tarte Tatin, a French spin on the apple pie that’s upside down with caramelized apples in it. There’s also apple strudel, or Apfelstrudel, which is a layered pastry with an apple filling. The apple filling in apple pies can range from using fresh apples to using canned or dried apples.

The crust can also vary— it can be double crust, lattice crust, or without a top, and flaky or more “crusty.” Apple pie can also be served with a variety of toppings and compliments. It is commonly eaten with whipped cream, custard, and of course ice cream.

Evidently there are numerous ways to spice up apple pie. The possibilities may be endless, but whichever way it’s eaten, consumers are enjoying the great taste of centuries of innovation.

If you’re more interested in the DS Lite keep reading. The Nintendo DS Lite is an excellent upgrade to the original Nintendo DS. It’s a smaller and prettier model with a thicker stylus, better-located microphone and retention of all of the DS’s great features. Some might be a little perturbed by the fact that the smaller size forces Game Boy Advance games to protrude from the system, but this is a small sacrifice for its many improvements.

Some games are released in Japan but not in the U.S., Japanese games don’t suffer from bad dubbing, and when DS Lite made its debut in Japan, it was available in 3 colors: polar white, ice blue and enamel navy.

But when it comes to Nintendo, the motto truly is, “Good things come to those who wait.” No doubt many Nintendo DS owners were dismayed when the Nintendo DS Lite upstaged their consoles. Fortunately, some stores allowed them to trade in their DS systems and buy the DS Lite at a reduced price, following the same practice that was instituted with the Game Boy Advance SP.

Gamers who waited to purchase the DS Lite were rewarded with a larger selection of colors, and gamers who waited even longer were able to purchase the Nintendo DSi, though some see this latest model as an unnecessary upgrade.

The DSi introduces a digital camera feature, connectivity to online downloadable content and small technical enhancements. However, it eliminates backwards compatibility with Game Boy Advance games, which is one of the main objections.

Nevertheless, whichever of the DS’s incarnations is preferable depends on personal opinion. Gamers who don’t want to let go of past handheld gaming might stick with the Nintendo DS Lite, or even with the original DS (“DS Phat”), which already has some old-school charm, being the equivalent of what NES is to Nintendo home consoles, albeit on a much smaller scale.

Other gamers with a lot of patience and a high delay of gratification threshold might even wait until the next generation of handheld models, though it’s hard to think of what can top touch screen gaming. Then again, portable gaming itself was a revolutionary idea once, and look where we are now.

History of Thanksgiving

The History and customs of Thanksgiving

The Thanksgiving story has unfortunately been often been misrepresented in the course of U.S. history. In the past, some history books even distorted the origin of Thanksgiving as far as to say that it was the Pilgrims who saved the Native Americans.

Thankfully, in more recent times the history of Thanksgiving has been more truthfully described. But maybe we’ll never know what really happened during that time. After all, it was such a long time ago and we weren’t there to see it all. Nevertheless, a more objective overview of the history of Thanksgiving exists today.

Almost everyone thinks of Thanksgiving as the time the Pilgrims came to Plymouth Rock, and then got together with the Native Americans and had a feast. Indeed, the Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth Rock in 1620 and suffered a bitter winter in which many of the original passengers on the Mayflower passed away.

Fortunately, the Native Indians helped the rest of them survive and the year after they were able to have a 3 day feast, though this wasn’t necessarily the holiday that Thanksgiving is now known as since it wasn’t instituted annually yet, and it didn’t occur in the next 5 years.

So the history of Thanksgiving leads us further along to 1676, in which Charlestown celebrated the success of their community. The Native Americans didn’t participate in this celebration, and in fact part of the celebration was because of their triumph over the Natives they saw as enemies they had defeated.

A century later, there was a Thanksgiving celebration in honor of defeating the British at Saratoga, and in 1789 George Washington proclaimed a National Day of Thanksgiving, but many like Thomas Jefferson opposed this.

But finally, President Lincoln officially proclaimed Thanksgiving in 1863 after a magazine editor named Sarah Hale had campaigned for a Thanksgiving holiday for 40 years. Since then, Thanksgiving became an annual event, though the date changed a few times before it settled on the 4th Thursday of November.

Looking back on the history of Thanksgiving, it’s fascinating to see how much the occasion changed over time and how it came to be what it is today. Back then, Thanksgiving happened in relation to specific events but now it’s a regular holiday during which friends and family gather to eat and give thanks. Maybe the rationale behind Thanksgiving has changed, but apparently good food and celebration hasn’t, and it looks like Thanksgiving is here to stay.
